People may see God through us

By Pastor Gary Brady

Recently, I ran across the story of a kindergarten teacher observing her classroom of children while they drew, occasionally walking around to see each child’s artwork. As she came to one little girl laboring diligently, the teacher asked what she was drawing. The girl replied, “I’m drawing God.” The teacher paused and said, “But no one knows what God looks like.” Without missing a beat or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”

“No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.” (John 1:18 NIV) Jesus came on a mission (as the God Man) to show us what God looks like. He succeeded in his mission. He has made him known.

Now, he has given us this responsibility. So, we may be a little older than the student mentioned in the story above, and we may not be seated with paper and crayons, drawing God. However, “in a minute” people will see God through us. They will soon know what he looks like. Or, will they?
